Momentum’s brand purpose is anchored on Expanding Possibilities. It is against this purposeful intent that the Nairobi based team led by the Brand & Strategy Manager - Kawira Irambu visited the Good Hope Orphanage in Kariobangi, with the Mombasa team visiting the Markaz Ummahaat Children’s Home to deliver much needed supplies.
Good Hope Orphanage was founded in 2012 by Sheikh Hassan Bakari. Sheikh Bakari was raised in a Garissa based orphanage and initially hosted his relative’s orphaned children. Eventually, the home expanded to accommodate orphans brought in by the orphaned children already hosted in the fledgling home as hosted orphans would bring other needy children from school with them. The Good Hope Children’s Home currently hosts 120 children aged between two (2) and twenty-one (21) years. In addition to consumables, Momentum donated beds - a much needed resource elevating the home’s sleeping condition by reducing congestion in the sleeping quarters.
The Markaz Ummahaat Children’s Home was founded by Mama Khadija 15yrs ago. Mama Khadija drew inspiration from Prophet Muhammad’s (Pbuh) teachings through Madrassas (Islamic institutions where Muslim students learn Islamic knowledge) on the duty owed to orphans.
The home currently hosts 70 girls aged between one (1) and seventeen (17) years. The home’s immediate need was food donations typically shared within the home’s neighbourhood. The community surrounding the Markaza Ummahaat survives on less than a dollar a day making food a top priority.
The children homes visits took place on on 1st May, 2021 coinciding with the Ramadhan period (one of the holy months in Islam where Muslims fast globally). Momentum used the donations from Momentum Sahih customers to fund the charity drive.
Worldwide, meeting basic needs has become increasingly difficult due to the impact of COVID-19 on the economy. Kenya has not been spared and it is on this strength that the team found it necessary to support the two children’s homes. During both visits, the team held separate mentorship sessions for the home’s girls and boys. Momentum prides itself in improving communities within which it operates.
